Spring

As Rum reawakens from winter hibernation and the cuckoo begins to call, a visit in spring is full of wonderful things, stay longer and join in with them all!

Croft 3 on the Isle of Rum will be hosting 4 volunteer events during 2016!

Spaces are limited so get in touch with nic@isleofrum.com to register your interest and get further details.

Projects include path building, working in the fruit and veg patch and polytunnel, feeding and working with the Croft 3 pigs and poultry, green building, wood chopping and more.

Come and spend time with the Goddard family (as seen on Ben Fogle's New Lives in the Wild last year) on their permaculture inspired, off grid 8 acre croft here on Rum.

Friday 20th May: From 7pm: Bring & Share Meal: Takeaway Night! in the Village Hall. Takeaway Night with a twist. The twist being you bring it here rather than take it away! Bring and share your favourite takeaway food - pizza, Chinese or Indian cuisine, kebabs, fish and chips... if you usually queue up and take your food away in a carrier bag, then make it at home and bring it along to the village hall instead! Cost £2 if bringing food, £5 if not

Monday 20th June: 11am-2pm: Alban Heruin, the Summer Solstice Join the Ranger for a guided wildlife walk up the Coire Dubh path on the longest day of the year. We’ll be walking at a relaxed pace on a made-up path, so the footing is good but please be aware that Coire Dubh is quite steep!

Wear good boots and bring a waterproof jacket, camera, binoculars, water/flask of tea or coffee, packed lunch and midge repellent.

In the company of Rum NNR staff aboard the MV Orion, you will discover all about these amazing seabirds and have the chance to spot other marine life in the waters around Rum during this unique evening cruise.

A trip to the Manx Shearwater breeding grounds under cover of darkness is a truly amazing wildlife experience. Get up close to the noise, smell and activity as tens of thousands of Manx Shearwaters make their return to their nesting burrows.

Join SNH staff on this special guided walk into the high cullins to discover more about this remarkable sea bird. Do not miss this amazing opportunity!

Autumn

As the leaves change colour and fall from the trees and the red deer rut, bellow and fight, we harvest Rum's larder, feast on our produce and send fireworks into the night!
