As Rum reawakens from winter hibernation and the cuckoo begins to call, a visit in spring is full of wonderful things, stay longer and join in with them all!

Join the Ranger for a guided wildlife walk to look for edible seafood and other seashore life. Good boots are essential as it will be wet in places. Bring a bag or bowl to take your forage home to cook

Saturday 22nd June: 1pm-8pm: Meet the Locals: the Red Deer Project at Kilmory

A guided walk to Kilmory to learn about the Rum Deer Project and see the deer

There will be a short talk about the Deer Project and a chance to see the vast collection of skulls and antlers built up over the last 40+ years

Meet outside the Village Hall at 1pm, returning by around 8pm

Wear good boots – it’s a 16km (10 mile) round trip, on mostly dry but uneven surfaces, and the path to the deer hide is often wet and boggy. Bring a picnic supper, cameras, binoculars and midge repellent/jackets

Join the Ranger for a guided walk to Port Na Caranean to search for this amazing plankton-feeding shark – the second largest fish in the world! Wear good boots and bring sandwiches, drinks, cameras, binoculars and midge repellent/nets.

Autumn

As the leaves change colour and fall from the trees and the red deer rut, bellow and fight, we harvest Rum's larder, feast on our produce and send fireworks into the night!

9.15am-5pm: The Rum Rut – guided walk to Kilmory

Join the Ranger to see the red deer rut made famous by AutumnWatch. We’ll hope to see stags parallel walking, fighting and stealing hinds from other stags. We may also see grey seal, snipe, merlin, stonechat, wheatear, twite and golden and white-tailed eagles. There will be a short talk about the work of the Rum Deer Project and a chance to see the vast collection of skulls and antlers built up over the last 40+ years.

Meet outside the Village Hall at 9.15am, returning by around 5pm Wear good boots – it’s a 16km (10 mile) round trip, on mostly dry but uneven surfaces. Bring packed lunch, cameras and binoculars.
