If you are keen on the outdoors, then Rum is the place for you. With walks of all lengths, there is adventure to be found around every corner. Kinloch Village has excellent views out over Loch Scresort where it is worth taking time to look at the shore birds and keeping an eye out for both Golden and White-tailed Eagle.
A trip to Kim’s Kitchen in the Village Hall for a cup of tea and piece of cake is also an essential part of a day trip to Rum, as is visiting the Craft shop on the shore by the red phone box and popping in to Rum Shop to see what goodies are there and perhaps even treating yourself to a bottle of the locally brewed Askival Rum.
For those with time to venture out on the National Nature Reserve, walks or bike rides to Harris in the southwest and the Red Deer Project at Kilmory in the north give great views and a real feeling of how diverse Rum is.
Adventures to Guirdil and Dibidil and up into the Rum Cuillin give more stunning views of the island and Small Isles, Outer Hebrides and over to Ben Nevis on the mainland. The Rum Cuillin is the summer home and breeding site for thousands of Manx Shearwaters, whose eerie call can be heard echoing around the hills late at night.
